A year ago, Loïc packed his bags and headed for California. The Foundation had awarded him a mobility grant to study for a degree at UC Berkeley, one of the best universities in the world, and to develop his skills in mathematics, finance and machine learning applied to finance.

He tells you all about his stay!

My time at UC Berkeley was a powerful and transformative experience, more than fulfilling my expectations and ambitions. My reasons for coming to Berkeley were clear: I wanted to work in the United States and, before that, get a degree from one of the best universities in the world. This desire led me to apply to Berkeley, known for its academic excellence and stimulating environment. My main objective was to immerse myself in a competitive and demanding job market, acquiring cutting-edge skills in mathematics, finance and machine learning applied to finance.

Did the teaching at Berkeley live up to your expectations?

Academically, I’ve been lucky enough to take courses taught by renowned experts in these disciplines. Berkeley’s programs are rigorous and demanding, offering a world-class education and unique professional opportunities.

And what do you take away from your stay in terms of culture?

My stay was also culturally and personally enriching. Living in California has offered me a unique blend of cultural diversity and natural beauty. I was able to take advantage of the many sports activities offered by the university, such as volleyball, tennis and climbing. Off campus, I explored the surrounding mountains on hikes, went skiing and learned to surf along the California coast. These experiences have not only enriched my personal life, but also enabled me to create strong bonds with students from all over the world.

How would you sum up your first experience in the United States?

My time at Berkeley added immense value to my professional career. My education in France, combined with the prestigious Berkeley degree, opened doors I’d never have imagined. As early as December, I was able to land a job in the United States, which enabled me to get through the second semester without the pressure of job hunting. This situation has given me the freedom to devote myself fully to my passions and hobbies, while continuing to enrich my academic and professional skills.

In terms of future projects, my time at Berkeley was the ideal springboard to launch my career in the United States. So I’m starting out in quantitative finance in Miami, and hope to continue on this path for a long time until I reach the streets of New York.

Any final words?

I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Foundation for awarding me this scholarship, which will enable me to pursue my studies and fulfill my academic and professional ambitions.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Foundation’s donors for their generous support. Your confidence in me and your investment in my education enable me to continue my studies and aspire to a promising future.

I want to support stays like Loïc’s.
