33rd AAS/AIAA Space Flight Mechanics Meeting for Sara
Published on
Sara Galzignato took part in the 33rd AAS/AIAA Space Flight Mechanics Meeting. This conference, sponsored by the American Astronautical Society (AAS) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), is one of themost important in the field of space flight dynamics.
Why did you choose to take part in this conference?
The main reason for my participation was to bring a subject of study that is still little discussed in the scientific community, with the aim of actively participating in the most current and recent research in the field of space flight mechanics. This research was carried out in collaboration with my colleague Francesco LEONARDI.
We’ve had the opportunity to work on a subject of fundamental importance and interest to us, which in recent years has been the subject of increasing research and study in all contexts of the space sector. In fact, we’ve tackled the subject of asteroid exploration, focusing in particular on optimizing meeting trajectories with these celestial bodies.
In addition, our work has made an important contribution to the development of SacLab studies, and therefore of ISAE-SUPAERO, by increasing its knowledge in order to refine and broaden its understanding of optimization algorithms applied to this important field.
How did it go on site?
Sara Galzignato
The conference I attended was an extraordinary event, bringing together some 500 people from all over the world, including PhD students, professors and researchers, all sharing a passion for space and high-quality scientific research.
The event was an ideal opportunity to present the results of my research and discuss the latest advances in a wide range of fields.
What’s more, attending this prestigious conference was an excellent opportunity to meet new people and discuss their thoughts and ideas. I was lucky enough to meet many renowned engineers and academics with whom I could discuss science, current affairs and space in common moments. These informal meetings have been extremely valuable, enabling me to delve deeper into certain subjects that interest me and to discover new points of view. I also greatly appreciated the atmosphere of openness and sharing that characterized the whole conference, enabling a fruitful and enriching dialogue. Finally, I’m convinced that these meetings can be an important opportunity to expand my own network of contacts and develop new collaborations and projects.
Any encounters that have left a lasting impression on you?
I had the pleasure of meeting a number of eminent personalities in the field of space research and astronomy. Among them was Julie Bellerose, a scientist on NASA’s DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) mission, whose aim is to test the ability to redirect an asteroid on a collision course with the Earth.
I also had the opportunity to speak with Arnaud Boutonnet. He is an aerospace engineer working at the ESA European Space Operations Centre. He is a mission analyst in the flight dynamics division. He is also a graduate engineer from ISAE-SUPAERO. His research focuses on optimal control and trajectory optimization. He is responsible for mission analysis for JUICE. He also supports or has supported other missions, such as Clear Space 1 (active debris removal) and Neosat (electric orbit raising). Mr Boutonnet is also co-chairman of the CNES Comet-Orb Centre of Expertise on astrodynamics.
NASA’s Stefano Campagnola and John Junkins are two other world-renowned experts with whom I spoke during the conference. Mr. Campagnola explained his role in the organization of space missions and how NASA is striving to meet the future challenges of space exploration, while Mr. Junkins told me about his experience in space research and how his passion for astronomy led him to work on projects such as the Cassini mission.
On the whole, The conference was a unique opportunity to meet and talk with leading scientists in the fields of space research and astronomy. I was very impressed by their dedication and passion for science and space exploration, and it made me think about the importance of supporting scientific research. and continue to explore the universe around us.
How would you sum up your experience?
My experience at the conference was extremely enriching. In fact, I had the opportunity to present the results of my research to an audience of around 30 to 40 people: during my presentation, I was pleased to see that many people were interested in my work and the subjects I was presenting. I was asked many questions, which I tried to answer as best I could. The audience’s active participation in my presentation was much appreciated, and made me feel part of a committed and motivated university community. This positive feedback gave me an extra boost to pursue my research, and showed me that my research can have a significant impact in my field.
During the conference, I had the pleasure of discovering that Julie Bellerose and Arnaud Boutonnet were both present at my presentation. Being two such important and committed scientists, I was flattered that they chose to come and listen to what I had to say. It was a great honor for me to see that these two eminent scientists had taken an interest in my work. Their presence at my presentation was an unforgettable moment and a great motivation to continue doing high-quality scientific research.
The Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO deserves my warmest thanks for the crucial support it gave me in covering the costs of attending the conference. Thanks to their generosity and dedication, I had the opportunity to participate in a high-level world conference, acquire new knowledge and skills, and meet important professionals in my field of study. Thanks to their generosity, I was able to cover the costs of my air travel and my participation in the conference, an opportunity I wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of otherwise. I can’t express my gratitude enough for their support, which enabled me to take part in such an important event and to come into contact with the best researchers in my field.
This experience has been particularly important for my academic and professional development and has been a unique experience in my career.
The support of the Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO has enabled me to realize my dream of taking part in an international academic conference, which will certainly have a significant impact on my life and career. Without their help, this opportunity would have been very difficult to realize. I am grateful for their help and hope that their generosity will continue to support the Institute and its students in the future.
