We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jean Lamy (S 1971) on July 6, 2025. A discreet humanist who passed on knowledge, a visionary and a committed philanthropist, Jean left a lasting mark on our community.

Throughout his life, Jean Lamy combined high standards, generosity and commitment. Faithful to his School, he never ceased to support the younger generations, convinced that everyone should be able to benefit from the same opportunities that shaped his own career.

For many years, Jean Lamy had accompanied the Foundation with kindness and lucidity. On several occasions, he was involved in drawing up our development strategy. An honorary member of the Cercle Jules Verne des grands donateurs, he regularly offered us his sound advice and a deeply altruistic view of our actions. Always a good listener, he shared his experience with humility.

The members of the Board of Directors and the Foundation’s team salute the memory of a man of exemplary commitment, and send their most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

Professional experience

Jean Lamy, who graduated from our school in 1971, has embodied the spirit of innovation, rigor and strategic vision throughout his career.

After completing his engineering training, he continued his studies abroad, obtaining a Master of Science in Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University (1971-1972), then an MBA from Iowa State University – Ivy College of Business (1975-1977), thus affirming his dual technical and managerial skills.

He has devoted over thirty years to leading responsibilities, notably in the aeronautical equipment and energy sectors.

His career was marked by senior management positions at FCI, where he successively held the positions of Chairman & CEO, then Vice Chairman, accompanying the group’s growth and transformation for 15 years. At the same time, he was a member of the AREVA group’s Executive Board, while also managing FCI when it joined the group, actively contributing to its global industrial strategy.

Previously, from 1987 to 2001, he had presided over several major industrial subsidiaries such as Labinal Inc, Globe Motors Inc and Cinch Connectors Inc, strengthening their presence in international markets and consolidating their position in leading-edge sectors.

From 2008, Jean Lamy sat on the Board of Directors of Amphenol Communications Solutions, bringing his expertise to bear on the Group’s strategy.

A man of vision and a recognized leader, Jean Lamy has left a lasting imprint on all the organizations he has worked with. His career remains a source of inspiration for young engineers and industrial leaders alike. .

Committed philanthropist

A recipient of scholarships during his studies, which enabled him to realize his academic and professional dreams, Jean Lamy has been a loyal and invaluable supporter of the École and its Foundation. In particular, he was involved in the construction of the Foundation’s first strategic plan for 2019.

Convinced of the importance of passing on knowledge, he was keen to support passionate students so that they could carry out ambitious projects, essential to their future as engineers. He saw them as actors in scientific progress.

Among the initiatives he has actively supported:

  • Mobility grants to the United States, awarded each year, to enable students to complete their training at ISAE-SUPAERO or carry out research at leading North American universities (USA and Canada). Thanks to this program, 14 students have been able to study for degrees at leading schools such as UC Berkeley, Columbia University, the University of Michigan and Polytechnique Montréal.

  • The creation of “Jeunes Pousses Entrepreneuriat” grants, designed to encourage students wishing to set up their own business. These grants are designed to provide them with the means to further develop their project and prepare for launch. Thanks to him, 18 entrepreneurial projects have been launched at ISAE-SUPAERO, the vast majority of which are currently being developed at InnovSpace.
